The CareGivers Center-Respite Program
Family caregivers of chronically ill older persons care for loved ones in the familiar surroundings of their own home or community. These caregivers are "on-call" 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so that their loved ones can remain in the comfort and security of their own environment.
At some point, even the caregiver needs a break from care giving. The caregiver needs respite. Respite provides caregivers a break from their daily responsibilities. Jamaica Service Program for Older Adults offers two respite programs for caregivers.
A Saturday Respite Program is available from the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The older adult comes to JSPOA's Conlon Community Center where they can socialize with other older adults and participate in activities, while the caregiver is given a break or respite.
Transportation is provided to and from the center.
In partnership with Services Now for Adult People ( SNAP ), respite care provides home care to the elderly so that family caregivers can continue to care for their relatives at home. JSPOA services 100 caregivers a year. back to top
